At other times the process has gone smoothly and documents have been uploaded and analysed perfectly. We have been contacted many times because researchers have had interviews transcribed (either by us or other firms) ready to upload into NVivo only to find that the software has failed to analyse the document properly. Firstly, whilst PDF, Word and Excel documents are compatible with NVivo, we have discovered from our dealings with clients that the results are very inconsistent. There were two main challenges that came with these requests. Clients have approached us asking for audio and video interviews to be transcribed into documents that are compatible with NVivo. Audio and video files of interviews can be uploaded directly into NVivo, but using PDF, Word or Excel documents in NVivo can be more cost effective. NVivo helps qualitative researchers to organize, analyse and find insights in unstructured or qualitative data like interviews where deep levels of analysis on small or large volumes of data are required. Having your files coded for NVivo as they are transcribed will save you time better spent analysing the resulting data. This format incurs a 10% surcharge and we refer to this format as ‘ NVivo Headings Simple’. This is a time-saver considering the coding you will no longer have to do manually, and useful for identifying the environment of certain concepts within nodes. Should you have less structured interviews, the interviewee and facilitator can be transcribed in the same headings style, enabling separate nodes on the same hierarchal level when imported. This format incurs a 15% surcharge and we refer to this format as ‘ NVivo Headings Questions’. You can analyse the range of interviewee responses to particular questions easily and efficiently.
This eliminates an enormous amount of work for you. If you have a list of interview questions that are followed in your audio files, we can format the transcripts to enable auto coding of nodes for each question and within that, for the facilitator and interviewee.
